Wrestler Vinesh Phogat is scheduled to run for the Haryana Assembly seat from Julana. He recently joined the Congress party. The Congress Central Election Committee met on Friday and decided on her name in the end.
Nevertheless, Phogat’s fellow old party member, wrestler Bajrang Punia, has not been granted a ticket to run in the assembly election.
Phogat said earlier in the day that she will keep fighting for the rights of other athletes, referring to her political career as a new chapter in her life.
Phoghat stated, “It was only the Congress party who understood our tears,” alluding to the ongoing sexual harassment case against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP politician Brij Bhushan Singh. In my life, this is a new chapter. In order to spare other athletes from what we experienced, I will work for them.
“We shall strive for the nation’s benefit with the new platform we are receiving today. We shall do everything in our power to work for our people, just as we played our game with passion. I want my sisters to know that I am here for them. Congress party and I will be there if there is no one else there for you. She continued, “I have experienced this, and I promise that we will be there.
What Vinesh Phogat says?
According to Phogat, all political parties supported the wrestlers during their roadside protests, with the exception of the BJP.
“Because the BJP’s IT cell was making noise about our being exhausted forces. Also I might have given up wrestling at Jantar Mantar.
They said I didn’t want to play in the nationals, but I did; they said I didn’t want to go through the trials, but I went through with it. They told me I couldn’t attend the Olympics, yet I went. Sadly, that was not God’s will, the woman remarked.
It was rumoured that Vinesh Phogat, a wrestler, may be fielded from either Charkhi Dadri or Julana ever since he met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi prior to joining the party.
Citing personal concerns, Phogat resigned from the Indian Railways on Friday.
Speaking about her disqualification prior to the Olympic final in Paris, the wrestler promised to eventually make public all the information behind the entire affair.
In response to a query on the possibility of a political plot behind her disqualification, she stated, “I will go into detail about it since it is very sensitive for me. Please be patient; I’ll talk about it eventually,” she replied.
