The US rock group Linkin Park has revealed that Emily Armstrong, a new singer, will be joining them on tour and in a new album.
2017 saw the suicide of Chester Bennington, the band’s former lead singer.
For the band’s upcoming projects, Armstrong will work with returning members Brad Delson, Phoenix, Joe Hahn, and Mike Shinoda.
Shinoda and Armstrong will both sing together, while Colin Brittain will join the ensemble as the new drummer.
Ahead of the release of their upcoming album From Zero and a new global tour, the band revealed their new lineup.
Linkin Park New Lead Singer
Growing up in Los Angeles, Armstrong is most recognised for her work as the singer for the alt-rock group Dead Sara, which she co-founded in 2005 alongside guitarist Siouxsie Medley.
Amstrong recounted the influence Linkin Park’s 2000 album Hybrid Theory had on her in a Billboard interview.
She remembered, “I was in a band when it came out.” “I was instantly drawn to the song “One Step Closer” and knew it was what I wanted to do. I want to be able to yell because I sing.”I’ve listened to the CD a trillion times; it was everything. To it, I would skate. To that, I would mosh.”
In an era dominated by solo artists, Linkin Park are one of the most successful bands of streaming age.
About Linkin Park
With almost 9 million views of their greatest hits album Papercuts per day, they are the only band to be featured in Spotify’s top 10 most-streamed albums ever.
After a frontman passes away, Linkin Park is not the first band to replace him or her; Alice in Chains and Sublime have done it in the past.
Most notably, after Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991, Queen has been on many tours with singer Adam Lambert.
In the interim, Brittain will take over for Rob Bourdon, the group’s former drummer.
“Rob had said to us at a point, I guess it was a few years ago now, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band,” Shinoda said in a statement to Billboard. And we knew it; that was clear from the beginning. I’m sure the fans noticed it too, but he was beginning to simply appear less and interact with them less.
“That was disappointing for me as a friend, but I also want him to pursue his happiness, and everyone obviously wants the best for him.”
Brittain has previously collaborated with All Time Low and Papa Roach, two rock bands.
This month, the band’s new world tour stops in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, Seoul, and London; in November, it travels to Bogotá.
This tour will be their first live performances since 41-year-old Bennington passed away in 2017.
The group’s first new song following Bennington’s passing, The Emptiness Machine, will be released ahead of their upcoming album.
In an official line-up debut, the band played the song during an hour-long concert that was streamed on social media on Thursday.
