Tata Sons’ emeritus chairman Ratan Tata passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday night at the age of 86. The businessman was hospitalized to Breach Candy Hospital on Monday for age-related routine examinations, but as his health deteriorated, he was transferred to the critical care unit just before he passed away. After RPG Group chief Harsh Goenka posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Tata Group formally announced his death.
Who will Succeed Ratan Tata?
Interest in Ratan Tata’s succession has long existed, especially since he left his Rs 3,800 crore corporate empire to no offspring. On the other hand, the Tata Group has a well-defined succession strategy. In 2017, N Chandrasekaran was named Chairman of the group’s holding firm, Tata Sons. In addition, as they get ready for the future, some Tata family members are taking on leadership positions in various departments.
One of the important individuals is Noel Naval Tata, Ratan Tata’s half-brother, who is thought to be a possible heir. Having worked for the Tata Group for forty years, Noel Tata has held important positions as Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company and Chairman of Trent, Tata International, Voltas, and Tata Investment Corporation. In addition, he serves as a trustee for the Sir Dorabji and Sir Ratan Tata Trusts. Neville, Maya, and Leah, Noel’s children, are also advancing in the organization and blazing their own trails.
Emerging Leaders of Tata Group
The oldest of Noel Tata’s children, Leah, graduated with a master’s in marketing from Madrid’s IE Business School. In 2006, she began working for the Tata Group at Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces as an assistant sales manager. After rising through the ranks at The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), she is currently the vice-president of the organization.
Maya Tata, her younger sister, started her career as an analyst at Tata Capital, the top financial services company in the group. Neville Tata, their brother, started working at Trent, a retail business that their father helped build, in the meantime.
