Equatorial Guinea – Sex tapes scandal that involved wives and sisters of VIPs.
The director general of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), Baltasar Engonga, has been placed under arrest for reportedly recording over 400 sex videos with the wives of well-known individuals in the nation. The controversy arose during an investigation into the 54-year-old economist’s involvement in economic fraud.
All about the Scandal
Multiple CDs that detailed Baltasar Engonga’s sexual relationships with well-known women, including his brother’s wife, the president’s niece and sister, the Director General of Police’s wife, and the spouses of more than 20 ministers, were found by ANIF authorities.
The video, which was discovered in his private office, was purportedly filmed with his permission and has now gone viral online, causing a stir in the media.
Some of the interactions took place at Engonga’s workplace; one scene allegedly depicted him having sex next to the national flag.
Local media outlet Ahora EG was the first to report on the scandal, calling it one of the most significant in the country’s recent history.
The allegation claims that since last October, Engonga has been embroiled in a sexual scandal.
According to reports, Baltasar Ebang Engonga taped these scenes with the women’s permission, absolving him of any potential integrity breach charges. He is seen engaging in unprotected intercourse with a number of women in the recordings, including those who are married to prominent and powerful figures in the nation as well as the most “diva and influential” unmarried women in Equatorial Guinea. According to the source, several scenes are set at homes, hotels, and even the protagonist’s Ministry of Finance workplace.
His actions are still being investigated, and as the case progresses, there is a lot of conjecture that additional officials might be involved.
About Engonga
According to The Africa Report, Engonga, who is known as “Bello” due to his attractive appearance, is the nephew of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, the president of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) commission.
The 54-year-old is the Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, or ANIF, and is also an economist.
His duties include overseeing financial investigations and leading efforts to reduce financial misconduct in the country.
A Malabo insider told the newspaper, “The family has trusted him with control over finances and tax administration, making him one of the most powerful men in the country.”
Engonga, however, faced criticism for conducting dubious transactions from Equatorial Guinean governmental accounts to Cayman Islands private accounts. In October, Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, also referred to as Teodorín, started investigating alleged transfers of state cash.
Teodorín saw this as an opportunity to overthrow Engonga, who had once been a candidate to take over for his father, President Obiang.
Government’s Action
Equatorial Guinea’s government swiftly responded by suspending all officials involved in sexual conduct in ministry offices.
Teodoro Nguema, the vice president, condemned the actions as being in violation of the country’s code of conduct and public ethics law. He reiterated the government’s “zero tolerance” policy for behaviour that jeopardises the integrity of public service while highlighting the significance of ethics and respect.
“Control mechanisms are already in place, and anyone who violates this rule again will be subject to disciplinary proceedings for indecent conduct and will be dismissed from their job,” he said, referring to the recent abuse that has been displayed on Equatorial Guinea’s social media. “Remember that ministries are solely and exclusively for carrying out administrative work in support of the country’s development,” he said.
Despite Engonga’s corruption charges, officials have noted that until compulsion or violence is shown, consenting intercourse is not prohibited.
The country’s attorney general, Nzang Nguema, has urged victims of sexual assault to come forward, emphasising the risks that frequent sexual encounters have to the general public’s health.
