In response to claims of a cryptocurrency scheme against her and Nana Patole, Supriya Sule, an NCP-SCP MP from Baramati, filed a criminal and defamation lawsuit. In the Maharashtra assembly elections, which started on Wednesday morning (November 20), the Mahayuti coalition, led by the ruling BJP, is fighting to hold onto power, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) combine is aiming for a significant comeback.
According to an election official, voting in all 288 assembly seats started at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 6 p.m. On November 23, the votes will be counted.
There are 4,136 candidates in the race, and more than 9.7 crore voters would have to choose among them, the official said.
The Ajit Pawar-led NCP has put up candidates in 59 seats, the BJP is running for 149 seats, and the Shiv Sena is running for 81 seats under the Mahayuti coalition. There are 101 candidates from the Congress, 95 from the Shiv Sena (UBT), and 86 from the NCP (SP) in the opposition’s MVA alliance.

Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP (Sharad Pawar), encouraged people to cast their ballots and underlined the importance of the assembly elections in determining Maharashtra’s destiny. After casting his ballot, Pawar emphasised the significance of voting in an interview with reporters in Baramati, Pune district. “This election is important because it will decide the destiny of Maharashtra. I implore every individual to use their right to vote,” he declared.
“Maharashtra’s voter percentage is lower than that of smaller northeastern states, which is disappointing,” the former Union minister said, voicing alarm over low voter turnout.
