At 7:27 a.m., the National Centre for Seismology reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck Mulugu, Telangana. Today’s earthquake in Hyderabad has been in news. The National Centre for Seismology stated that a 5.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Telangana’s Mulugu region Wednesday morning, causing vibrations in Hyderabad and other areas of Andhra Pradesh. At 7:27 a.m., the earthquake struck, sending inhabitants into a panic.
There were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties. While experts encourage locals to remain vigilant and steer clear of crowded or dangerous structures during earthquakes, authorities are evaluating the situation.
The National Centre for Seismology wrote on X, “EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana.”
The earthquake is an unusual occurrence in Telangana because the state rarely experiences seismic activity.
Earthquake tremors in parts of Maharashtra
Following an earthquake that struck Mulugu in adjoining Telangana on Wednesday morning, tremors were felt in the districts of Nagpur, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur in Maharashtra. According to the NCS, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake was detected in Mulugu at 7:27 a.m.
According to sources from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and locals, Nagpur experienced mild tremors. As per the district information office, Gadchiroli, which is relatively near to Telangana, too experienced mild shocks.
According to a district administration official, there were also minor earthquakes in some areas of Chandrapur, Ballarpur, and the tehsils that bordered Telangana.
Residents were urged by Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda to remain alert and seek shelter in open areas outside of buildings in case the tremors recurred. According to IMD officials, light tremors are typically detected 200 to 300 kilometres away from the epicentre of an earthquake.
Zone II, Zone III, Zone IV, and Zone V are India’s four seismic zones. While Zone II is linked to the lowest amount of seismicity, Zone V anticipates the highest intensity. Zone II is a low-intensity zone that includes Telangana.
Eleven percent of the nation is in zone V, eighteen percent is in zone IV, thirty percent is in zone III. The remainder is in zone II.
Approximately 59% of India’s landmass, which includes all of its states, is vulnerable to earthquakes of varying magnitudes.

“One of the strongest earthquakes occurred in Telangana for the first time in the last 20 years, with a 5.3 magnitude earthquake at Mulugu as epicentre,” stated Telangana Weatherman, an X user.
The user further mentioned that the earthquakes were felt throughout Hyderabad and all of Telangana.
Earthquake of magnitude 2.9 strikes Assam’s Karbi Anglong
On the intervening night of November 30, Karbi Anglong in Assam was rocked by an earthquake of magnitude 2.9.
The NCS reports that the tremo, was 25 kilometres deep and focused in the Karbi Anglong district. This tremor was registered at approximately 2:40 am
Earthquake of 5.8 magnitude hits Jammu and Kashmir
On November 28, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir, however no fatalities or property damage were reported.
At 4:19 p.m., the earthquake was recorded.
According to officials, the epicentre of the earthquake was located in Afghanistan at a depth of 165 km and latitudes of 36.49 degrees north and 71.27 degrees east.
