Before he passed away in 2006, Steve Ford, the son of former President Gerald Ford, recited a eulogy his father had written for former President Jimmy Carter.
“Knowing that one would have to entrust the delivery to someone else, both presidents had agreed to eulogize each other,” Steve Ford stated.
Even before we loved each other as close friends, Gerald Ford recalled, “Jimmy and I respected each other as adversaries because of our shared values.” “Honesty was not an aspirational objective for Jimmy Carter. It was ingrained in his spirit.
Steve Ford also gave Carter a brief tribute, recalling how Carter helped Ford’s wife, former first lady Betty Ford, following the funeral and stating that Carter’s eulogy at Gerald Ford’s funeral had brought solace and happiness to the Ford family for many years.

This week, Americans are honoring former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 last month.

Woodruff asked Carter what he was most proud of as president when she met with the Carters in 2021 to commemorate their 75 years of marriage.
We are really proud to have been elected and to have held the office of president. I believe that is the pinnacle of our lives as a whole. And I would say that we fulfilled our campaign pledges. We respected human rights, told the truth, obeyed the law, and maintained peace. Carter stated, “Those were things that were important to me.”
