In the Central Hall of Parliament, the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution’s adoption was commemorated. The Indian Constitution Day in celebrated on 26th November every year. On this day the Indian Constitution Day was adopted by the constituent Assembly in 1949.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar talked about Dr. B R Ambedkar, who warned that political parties should keep the country over creed in order to preserve India’s independence. President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday recalled a statement made by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the president of the Constituent Assembly, who stated that how the Constitution functions in the future would depend on those who implement it.
On November 26, 1949, two months before the Indian constitution went into effect on January 26, 1950, President Murmu and Vice-President Dhankhar spoke to members of both Houses of Parliament at a joint session to commemorate the 75th anniversary of its adoption.
Murmu referred to the Constitution as the nation’s sacred text and claimed that the Constituent Assembly’s nearly three-year-long discussions had reinforced nationalist sentiment as a whole. She recognised the contributions of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the head of the draughting committee, Dr. Ambedkar, and other process participants, such as B N Rau.
Murmu also highlighted the efforts of the 15 female members of the Constituent Assembly, emphasising that Dr. Ambedkar gave the Constitution a progressive slant. The principles of our freedom struggle were somewhat reflected in our constitution, which was draughted in three years by some outstanding individuals. These values—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—complement each other, the president stated.
