Along with her mother, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra travelled to Parliament, where she took her oath with her husband, Robert Vadra, and MP brother, Rahul Gandhi.
In a recent wave of by-elections that coincided with the 2024 Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections, Priyanka Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 4,10,931 votes.
Rahul Gandhi, the brother of Priyanka Gandhi, had won the Rae Bareli seat, which is the family’s stronghold, and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, which was left vacant by him. The Wayanad bypoll was required because Rahul Gandhi chose to leave the Wayanad seat and keep the Rae Bareli seat after winning the two seats in the April 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
A triangular race between Priyanka Gandhi, Navya Haridas of the BJP, and Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI) took place in Wayanad, a Congress stronghold.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Electoral Debut
As a United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, Priyanka Gandhi ran for the Wayanad seat.
After the passing of the current party MP, Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan, the Nanded Lok Sabha seat became vacant, and Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan won the by-election with 5,86,788 votes.
With the victory in Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra makes her electoral debut and will join her brother Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the House, in the Lok Sabha. Sonia Gandhi, their mother, is a Rajasthani member of the Rajya Sabha.
In the constituency’s April Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi garnered 647,445 votes, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra received 6,22,338 votes because to a low voter turnout.
