According to the lawyer, Aliya Fakhri, 43, “deliberately” set a two-story garage on fire, killing her 35-year-old ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs. Bollywood actor Nargis Fakhri’s sister Aliya Fakhri has reportedly been detained in connection with the death of her ex-boyfriend and his buddy in New York’s Queens last month.
According to a news release by District Attorney Melinda Katz, Aliya Fakhri, 43, “deliberately” set a detached garage of a property on fire, killing her 35-year-old ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs and Anastasia Ettienne, 33.
Aliya Fakhri arrived at the garage early on November 2 and yelled at Jacobs, “You’re all going to die today.” Jacobs was asleep at the time of the occurrence and lived above.
According to a press release from the office of District Attorney Melinda Katz, a witness heard her voice and came out to see the building was on fire.
After being warned, Jacobs’ buddy Ettienne hurried back upstairs to save him. However, according to the press release from Katz’s office, none of them lived and passed away from heat injuries and smoke inhalation.
At the time of the incident, Aliya Fakhri lived in Queens on Parsons Boulevard.
Charges against Nargis Fakhri’s sister
According to the release, Aliya Fakhri was indicted by a grand jury on four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and one count each of first- and second-degree arson. If found guilty of the most serious charge, she could spend up to life in prison.
“This defendant intentionally killed two individuals by starting a fire that ensnared a man and a woman in a blazing conflagration, as claimed in this indictment. Tragically, the victims’ heat injuries and smoke inhalation caused their deaths. As we pursue this case, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Edward Jacobs and Anastasia Ettienne,” the statement read.
“According to the charges and investigation, on November 2 at approximately 6:20 a.m., Fakhri arrived at the front door of a two-story detached garage behind 172-27 91st Avenue and shouted upstairs to victim Edward Jacobs, 35, ‘You’re all going to die today,'” the release added. The building was on fire when a witness who had been inside the residence came downstairs shortly after. When Ettienne heard about the fire, he went downstairs for a moment. Then the woman went back upstairs to try to wake Jacobs, who was asleep. Neither Jacobs nor Ettienne were able to flee as the structure caught fire.
According to an NDTV article, Aliya Fakhri’s mother was shocked that she could kill someone. According to her mother, Aliya tried to help and cared for everyone.
Some sources have revealed, Aliya’s mother also stated that she feels her behaviour may have been caused by her battle with opiate addiction following a dental accident.
