In a heartbreaking statement, the mother of 32-year-old Rory Callum Sykes revealed that her son had perished in a fire at his house. Rory is thought to have been stranded inside a separate cottage close to Malibu when the fire started.
His mother Shelley stated in an emotional interview with 10 News: “The water was turned off, so I was unable to use a hose to extinguish the cinders on his roof. His cottage was completely destroyed by fire when the fire department returned me. We shall really miss him.
After failing to call 911, Shelley reportedly had to make a last-ditch effort to get aid by driving a quarter of a mile. According to The Mirror, she was tragically subsequently told by rescuers that her kid had died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

In 1998, Rory gained notoriety as the host of the British RTV program Kiddy Kapers. Rory’s mother had previously talked about how he had “overcome so much” in his life, including “therapies to regain his sight and to be able to learn how to walk,” after being born blind and receiving a cerebral palsy diagnosis.
“It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday,” Shelley Sykes posted on Twitter/X in a heartfelt remembrance of her son following his untimely demise. My heart is completely broken. Rory Callum Sykes, a British-born Australian who now resides in America, is a great boy who was born on July 29, 1992, the day of his grandmother’s and my birthdays.
The New York Post reported that Rory Sykes’ passing is not included in the official casualty figures from the LA fires. Current reports say at least 11 other people have died as a result of the catastrophic blazes, which have also razed thousands of homes, affecting civilians and celebrities alike.
Among those affected is Paris Hilton, who watched her home being destroyed on live television. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were also seen comforting those who had lost their homes and have been providing aid packages for those impacted.

You are in our prayers and thoughts.
“I’m so sorry to read this news,” said another, expressing sympathy. It must have been a difficult event for you both. One person wrote, “It’s heartbreaking and devastating. If the water had been turned on, the fire fighters may have had a chance, he may well still be here.” Another person added, “Sending my condolences.”
