Anil Arora, the father of Bollywood star and model Malaika Arora, reportedly died on Wednesday after plunging from a building’s terrace, according to authorities.
Anil Kuldip Mehta, the father of Bollywood actor Malaika Arora, may have committed himself on Wednesday by plunging from a building’s Bandra terrace, according to police.
The probable causes of the suicide have not yet been ascertained by the authorities.
Correction: The dead was named as Anil Arora, Malaika Arora’s father, in a previous version of this story. It has been made clear that Anil Kuldip Mehta was his name.
Officials said the actor was in Pune at the time of the event and learnt about the suicide when she got home in Mumbai.
After learning of Malaika’s death, a number of people, including Bollywood actors, her family, and her ex-husband Arbaaz Khan, came to her home to express their condolences.
Actor Malaika Arora released a statement over the death of her father, Anil Kuldip Mehta, who is believed to have leaped from his apartment block in Bandra, Mumbai, on Wednesday morning. The statement stated that the family is very shocked.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta,” the family stated in a statement that Malaika Arora posted on Instagram. He was our dearest friend, a loving spouse, a devoted grandfather, and a lovely spirit. We respectfully ask that the media and well-wishers keep their distance from our family during this trying time as we are still in profound shock over this tragedy. We value your respect, understanding, and assistance.”
Is it a Suicide?
Further information about the tragedy has surfaced, and it was stated that Mehta, 65, remarked, “I’m tired,” on the phone to his two daughters prior to reportedly plunging off the sixth-floor balcony of his Bandra home, Ayesha Manor. Mehta committed suicide, according to the authorities.
Joyce Polycarp, the mother of Malaika and Amrita Arora and Mehta’s wife, informed the Mumbai Police that she was present in the home at the time of the occurrence. On Wednesday morning, about nine in the morning, she saw her husband’s slippers in the living room and went to find him.
When she couldn’t find him on the balcony, she leaned over the railing to see that there was a disturbance and that a security guard inside the building was yelling for assistance, according to news agency IANS.

According to the IANS report, Anil contacted both of his daughters and said, “I’m tired,” right before he is believed to have jumped off the balcony. At the time, Malaika Arora was on her way to an event in Pune.
At Bhabha Hospital, a post-mortem is being performed.
Malaika Arora was born not far from Mumbai in Thane. When she was eleven years old, her parents split, and she and her mother Joyce, as well as sister Amrita, moved to Chembur.
Anil Mehta, who served in the Indian Merchant Navy, is a Punjabi community member, and Joyce Polycarp is a Malayali Christian.
Following word of Mehta’s passing, reports also state that Arbaaz Khan, Malaika’s erstwhile spouse, and her presumed ex-boyfriend Arjun Kapoor visited the flat.
Malaika discussed her parents’ divorce in a recent interview with a fashion magazine, stating that although her upbringing was “wonderful,” it was also “tumultuous” and “not easy,” according to the IANS article.
