OTT release of Mr. Bachchan
Similar to Double iSmart, which debuted on August 15 and was available on Prime Video in less than 21 days, Mr. Bachchan was quietly published on Netflix. The Netflix team, together with the film’s cast and crew, did not publicise the movie’s arrival on the streaming service. After a 4-week theatrical run—which is regarded as a respectable theatrical window preceding digital releases—the picture was officially released on OTT.
Raid Remake
A remake of the 2018 Hindi film Raid is called Mr. Bachchan. Even though Harish is renowned for giving critically praised films a commercial spin, his attempt to make a picture with few takers faltered. During its theatrical run, the movie brought in ₹14.19 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk.com. The movie was even cut by 13 minutes after receiving unfavourable reviews, yet this had little effect on box office receipts.
The age gap between Ravi and Bhagyashri, the film’s leads, drew criticism even before it was released. Despite Harish’s defence in interviews, stating he doesn’t understand the “big deal,” some songs’ choreography was criticised for objectifying the lead female singer.
Both reviewers and viewers gave the movie mixed reviews after its premiere, with many highlighting awkward lines or sequences.
A source informed Hindustan Times that, in light of the box office fiasco, Ravi returned ₹4 crore and Harish returned ₹2 crore of his earnings to the film’s producers, People Media Factory.
About Mr Bachchan
The film follows the tale of an upright Income Tax officer who goes up against Jagapathi Babu, a formidable politician. Although the original was a huge hit, both reviewers and viewers disapproved of the commercial approach taken in the remake. In the movie, Ravi portrayed Indukuri Anand, also known as Mr. Bachchan, while Bhagyashri portrayed Jikki, his romantic interest. Jagapathi Babu played Mutyam Jaggaiah, the MP who is the adversary.
