Trump 2.0: Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, and Vivek Ramaswamy will head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which would be tasked with eliminating government bureaucracy, cutting unnecessary spending, eliminating unnecessary regulations, and reorganising federal agencies.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement,” Trump stated in an AFP report.
Musk and Ramaswamy “will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” according to a statement released by Trump.
According to Reuters, Trump stated that their work would be finished by July 4, 2026, and that a more compact and effective government would be a “gift” to the nation on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Day signing.
Two Trump supporters in the private sector are rewarded by the appointments.
Throughout the campaign, Vivek Ramaswamy, the founder of a pharmaceutical firm and a past Republican presidential candidate, and Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind SpaceX, Tesla, and X (formerly Twitter), have been outspoken backers of President-elect Donald Trump.
Musk, who is renowned for his innovative contributions to social media, electric cars, and space exploration, has supported Trump by giving millions of dollars to his campaign and appearing in public beside the former president. Trump had already declared that Musk would be given a significant position in his cabinet to support initiatives to increase government effectiveness. In 2024, Ramaswamy challenged Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, although he eventually embraced the former president after withdrawing from the contest.
Together, Musk and Ramaswamy will push technologies that will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the U.S. government and streamline governmental operations.
The new department’s moniker, DOGE, is remarkably similar to the name of the cryptocurrency that Musk advocates, Dogecoin.
“This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste, which is a lot of people!” Trump referred to the new government endeavour as “potentially ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” a reference to the United States’ plan to develop the atomic weapon that contributed to the conclusion of World War Two, and Musk said as much.
