The Malayalam film Asthram marked the beginning of the actor Meghanathan’s remarkable career in 1983.
The 60-year-old renowned Malayalam actor Meghanathan died after complications from a lung condition. The actor passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. According to Kozhikode family members, his funeral will take place on Thursday at his home in Shoranur.
Meghanathan, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is renowned for reinventing antagonist roles in Malayalam cinema. He was the third child of Sarada Nair and the renowned actor Balan K. Nair. His daughter Parvathi and wife Susmitha survive him.

The Malayalam film Asthram marked the beginning of the actor’s remarkable career in 1983. He established himself as a versatile performer by making over 50 film appearances over the next three decades. He had to wait three years after Asthram before landing his next part in Panchajni (1986). Fans and critics alike can never forget his remarkable performances in films like Panchagni, Chamayam, Rajadhani, Bhoomigeetham, Chenkol, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Prayikkara Pappan, Udyanapaalakam, Ee Puzhayum Kadannu, and Vaasthavam.

In addition to having a prosperous cinema career, Meghanathan was well-known on Malayalam television. Meghasandesham, Kathayariyathe, Sthreetvam, Snehanjali, and Chitta were among the well-known serials in which he appeared. Earlier this year, Samadhana Pusthakam, his last film appearance, was released.

On social media, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty and many of his supporters and colleagues shared their deepest sympathies. A tribute post including a picture of the deceased actor read, “A talented artist who redefined the portrayal of villains in cinema.”
